Born on the first day of the year in 1991, Nick Ronald Thea Fransen came into the world a soon-to-be ravenous machine for all shades of grungy greatness. The older half of a twin (by three minutes), Nick grew up in a quiet but affluent Belgian town, the kind of place where imagination and aspiration entwines to give way to a great determination and avid wanderlust.
At the age of two, Nick discovered his first muse, a small plastic drum with which he was inextricably tied. It was through this rhythmic articulation that his first musical expressions were displayed. By 14, Nick had discovered a six-string princess with whom he would mark the rest of his musical days. His first guitar was a “something borrowed” from his father, who quickly surrendered the instrument to a hungry cub, with the one promise that Nick would pay for it once he made money from his music.
A natural songwriter, Nick draws inspiration from the likes of Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, John Mayer and his most prominent muse, the emotionally-charged Jeff Buckley.
London, one of the most exalted music capitals of the world would lure Nick over in the Summer of 2009. He sought a year of submersion in music and self-discovery, which he found via Tech Music Schools in Chiswick, West London. There he spent a year exploring his talents and meeting the two guys who would eventually form his trio. Kilian Saubusse, a stylish, steadfast and funky left-handed drummer from a musical family in France and Colombian Diego Rodriguez, whose dexterity and willingness on the bass made him a much sought after force at Tech music Schools and beyond. Legend has it that Diego needs neither sleep nor mollycoddling, playing in up to nine bands at a time; bringing his dirty and deliberate licks to each one of them. The trio formed a legion to be noticed during their year together, performing quite frequently at gigs around London, even whilst doing a full time course.
Their music is a grunge-soaked, unapologetic alternative sound, born of playful rhythms and with the mysterious brooding of Nick’s emotionally sated lyrics and youthfully haunting voice. Nick’s voice rises like a bruised and battered thing from a dense soundscape that will surely stay “embedded in your mind,” for a long time!
NFT seek to tour internationally with bases in London and Belgium, gleaning fans from every metropolis, who they hope will follow them down the road to world domination!
